According to industry sources, Audi is developing a new entry-level electric vehicle that could revive the A2 badge, expanding its EV lineup. The model is expected to enter production in 2026.

The original A2 was a compact aluminum hatchback produced from 1999 to 2005. The new version, however, is anticipated to be a compact crossover, aligning with current SUV trends, while possibly incorporating design nods to its predecessor.

The vehicle will likely be built on Volkswagen Group's MEB electric platform, sharing technology with models like the ID.3. Expected battery options range from 45 kWh to 77 kWh, with power outputs from 110 kW to 240 kW.

Positioned as Audi's most affordable EV, the new A2 could eventually replace compact combustion models like the A1 and Q2, which are slated to end production in 2026 as Audi electrifies its entry-level offerings.

While unconfirmed, the potential revival of the A2 name underscores how automakers are leveraging historic badges for their electric future. More details may emerge later this year.
