BMW Motorrad has unveiled the R 1300 R Superhooligan, a spectacular custom racer, at Daytona Bike Week. The bike commemorates the 50th anniversary of Steve McLaughlin's historic win on an R 90 S at the first-ever Daytona Superbike race in 1976.

The tribute machine features McLaughlin's #83 and an orange paint scheme inspired by the 1976 race bike. It pairs this with a blue subframe and fork tubes, matching M 1000 RR-derived brake calipers. Performance modifications include a carbon front wheel from the M 1000 RR, an Akrapovič titanium exhaust, Wilbers suspension with extended forks for increased lean angle, and fully adjustable Advik levers.

The project was developed by the BMW Motorrad Custom Speed Shop to honor the brand's landmark 1976 season, which also saw Reg Pridmore claim the inaugural AMA Superbike Championship. The custom R 1300 R will be displayed alongside the original winning R 90 S at the 2026 Daytona 200 weekend, reuniting key figures from that historic year.
