Genesis Debuts Its First Performance-Focused EV

The automotive landscape gains a new contender as Genesis officially launches the 2027 GV60 Magma. Priced at $71,495, including delivery fees, this model represents the premium brand's first foray into the high-performance segment, directly challenging established German rivals from Mercedes-AMG and BMW M.

Power and Engineering

Underneath its sculpted exterior, the GV60 Magma hides a potent dual-motor powertrain. During standard operation, the vehicle delivers 600 horsepower, but engaging the "Boost Mode" pushes output to a staggering 641 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. This setup allows the crossover to sprint from zero to 60 mph in under four seconds.

To enhance driver engagement, Genesis has incorporated a virtual transmission system that simulates traditional gear shifts, providing tactile feedback during acceleration. This is complemented by an electronic limited-slip differential for improved handling and a dedicated "Drift Mode" for track-oriented performance enthusiasts.

Interior Luxury and Unique Features

While the vehicle shares technical DNA with other Hyundai Motor Group performance products, the Genesis offers a distinct luxury experience. Inside, drivers are treated to exclusive performance bucket seats and a specialized steering wheel that features dedicated buttons for Boost and Magma modes. The cabin is finished with alloy pedals and a unique digital instrument cluster.

The auditory experience is managed by the e-ASD+ system, which utilizes external speakers to project simulated engine sounds. Notably, the GV60 Magma features a unique audio profile inspired by the iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed, setting it apart from its corporate cousins.

Charging and Availability

The vehicle is equipped with an 84-kilowatt-hour battery pack utilizing an 800-volt architecture. This advanced electrical system allows for a 10-to-80% charge in roughly 20 minutes. While official EPA range estimates are pending, the performance metrics are expected to mirror those of other high-end electric models in the group.

Genesis confirmed that the initial rollout will begin shortly at select retail locations across California, New York, and New Jersey.
