An Ambitious Expansion Strategy
Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled an aggressive roadmap for its growth in the United States. During the 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul, CEO Jose Muñoz confirmed that the combined efforts of Hyundai and its luxury division, Genesis, will result in the introduction of 58 new vehicles in the American market by 2030. The diverse lineup will include Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs), hybrids, performance-oriented N models, and traditional body-on-frame vehicles.
The Future of Hyundai’s Lineup
Hyundai intends to release 36 new models for the U.S. market. A primary focus is the introduction of the 2028 Santa Fe EREV in early 2027. This vehicle is set to be the first of its kind in the U.S. since the BMW i3 REX, boasting an impressive 600 miles of total range via a dual-motor setup paired with a 1.6-liter internal combustion engine.
The company also highlighted advancements in battery technology, promising new cells that offer double the energy density of current nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) batteries while remaining lighter and faster to charge.
New Designs and Utility
The updated Tucson SUV, already revealed in Korea, is heading to the U.S. with a larger frame and a 242-hp hybrid powertrain. Additionally, the next-generation Elantra is expected to follow, featuring a bold, retro-futuristic aesthetic. For utility and off-road enthusiasts, Hyundai is preparing a new body-on-frame platform, with concepts like the Boulder and Crater suggesting potential entries into the competitive off-road SUV and pickup truck segments.
Furthermore, Hyundai is exploring the large commercial van sector. Potential candidates for the U.S. market include the Staria or a next-generation version of the Solati, as the brand seeks to broaden its reach beyond passenger vehicles.
Performance and Autonomy
The N sub-brand will also see growth, with seven new models planned by 2030. This includes a new performance-oriented sub-brand designed to bridge the gap between daily driving comfort and track-ready capabilities. Regarding autonomous driving, the company is moving forward with its collaboration with Waymo, starting with Ioniq 5 robotaxi deliveries this year.
Genesis Luxury Evolution
Genesis remains a cornerstone of the group's strategy, with 22 new models slated for North America. Highlights include:
- GV90 Flagship: A new luxury SUV featuring coach doors and advanced wireless battery management.
- GV80 Hybrid: Set for a September reveal, this model will feature a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor to improve both power and fuel efficiency.
- GV70 EREV: Expected in early 2027, promising up to 640 miles of range.
Genesis is also exploring high-end segments, including potential luxury coupes and convertibles based on G90 concepts, as well as a high-performance hypercar inspired by the Magma GT.
«The roadmap shows Hyundai broadening its U.S. strategy. Hybrids and EREVs will serve buyers not ready for full EVs, body-on-frame models will move the company into more lucrative segments, and Genesis will continue its march upmarket,» the company stated.
