Mercedes-Benz has introduced a comprehensive update to its flagship EQS electric sedan, with over a quarter of its components being newly developed or refined. The refresh delivers a leading 575-mile range on a single charge and supports ultra-fast charging capable of adding approximately 200 miles of range in around 10 minutes.

Industry observers note this extensive overhaul goes far beyond a typical mid-cycle update. "That's far beyond a typical mid-cycle refresh — this is essentially a new car wearing the same skin," wrote Electrek's Fred Lambert. Other reported enhancements include plans for steer-by-wire technology, improved regenerative braking, and lighting and comfort upgrades.

The launch occurs as the EV market undergoes a shift. While U.S. EV sales faced challenges after federal tax credits ended earlier than planned, automakers are showing renewed interest due to factors like volatile gas prices. Several brands, including Kia and Subaru, are planning new EV models for the American market.

"The market is going to come back for EVs — maybe not as quickly as we all would have liked. We're committed to it," said Kia America's Marketing Vice President Russell Wager. Analysts suggest the market is entering a new phase driven by product value, smarter pricing, and infrastructure investment rather than subsidies alone.

The updated Mercedes-Benz EQS is now available for order in Germany starting at €94,403.
