Mercedes-Benz has significantly increased testing of its upcoming compact G-Class, nicknamed the 'Little G', ahead of its anticipated arrival in 2027. New spy photos from winter testing near the Arctic Circle offer the most detailed look yet at this new entry-level 4x4.
Positioned as the new gateway to the G-Class family, the 'Little G' will be built on a unique platform and offered with both electric and internal combustion powertrains. It is set to compete directly with Land Rover's forthcoming all-electric 'Defender Sport'.
The latest images confirm the model will retain the iconic, boxy G-Class aesthetic, including the classic three-window design and a fixed spare wheel case. However, it features a distinct new lighting signature and roof bars, suggesting a more lifestyle-oriented positioning compared to the flagship model.
Mercedes executives have emphasized that the 'Little G' is a largely unique development, requiring a bespoke 'miniature ladder-frame' chassis and many exclusive components to ensure authenticity and capability. Design cues will be a modernized, slightly sharper interpretation of the iconic G-Class shape.
